About AARP-Tax-Aide

AARP AARP Tax-Aide is an AARP Foundation program.  Volunteers have many years experience preparing tax returns and undergo extensive training.  All volunteers must pass a six-hour test and have the highest IRS volunteer certification.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has helped individuals for more than 40 years in every state and the District of Columbia.  AARP Tax-Aide is the largest volunteer free tax preparation organization.  It is the third largest tax preparation organization of any type in the United States.

Throughout the United States there are over 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers in more than 6000 sites who filed 2.6 millions returns in 2012.  In California, there are 3100 volunteers who filed over 192,000 Federal and and an equal number of California state tax returns.  $120,000,000 in refunds were generated.

In San Luis Obispo county, there are over 60 volunteers who operate in 8 sites in both South and North County.  Last year, they filed 2450 Federal and an equal number of California state tax returns.  $2,000,000 in refunds were generated.  North Santa Barbara county has 30 volunteers who operate in 4 sites.  Last year, they filed 1550 Federal and an equal number of California State tax returns.  $1,400,000 in refunds were generated.
